Bringing 30 years of experience from the NYC theater community to Central New York, Auburn Players Community Theatre is proud that Bill Daugherty will be directing Scrooge the Musical December 9th through the 11th at the Auburn Public Theater. In the spirit of Miracle on Genesee Street, The Auburn Players, Auburn Public Theater, and Harlequin Productions boast a cast and crew of past, present and future neighborhood stars and are delighted to have Bill as its Director.
Bill was born and raised in St. Louis, Missouri and earned his BFA in acting from the Conservatory at Webster University in St Louis. He moved to NYC where he performed in major clubs and concert halls including Carnegie Hall, Weill Recital Hall, Town Hall, The Oak Room at The Algonquin, Club 53 at the NY Hilton, The Russian Tea Room, Eighty Eight’s. He and his professional partner, Robin Field were featured for seven years running at Kaufman Hall in the 92nd St Y’s Lyrics & Lyricists series, under the loving auspices of the late Maurice Levine. He is the recipient of 4 MAC (Manhattan Association of Cabarets & Clubs) for his contribution to live entertainment and 3 of Backstage Magazine’s Bistro Awards.
Bill has conceived and directed a number of successful revues including the runaway off-Broadway hit “When The Lights Go On Again” – a new 1940’s musical – which ran for 2 years at the Triad Theater. It won the Backstage Bistro Award for Outstanding Musical Revue in 2008. His subsequent production, “Brother, Can You Spare A Dime? – Songs and Stories from the Great Depression” opened to critical acclaim and ran for six months. Most recently he and musical director Doyle Newmyer mounted their fourth collaboration: “On The Record – A Tribute To The Great Vocal Groups of the 20th Century” which wowed audiences with a multimedia presentation. All three Original Cast recordings are available through Thoroughbred Records.
Bill now has a home in Weedsport since he was hired by Nazareth College in Rochester, NY to teach in their new BFA Musical Theater program. He has designed a Vocal Technique class for the curriculum and directed the first production of the season at Nazareth, Maury Yeston’s epic musical tale –Titanic.
Bill states that “the transition has been an interesting and incredibly rewarding one.” Each challenge has been met with a happy result and he is finding his new life to be exactly what he had hoped it would be.
