The Laramie Project opens this week at The Auburn Public Theater in Downtown, Auburn.

Nine actors play over 60 roles in this unique play about the reaction to the 1998 murder of gay University of Wyoming student Matthew Shepard in Laramie, Wyoming.   The murder was denounced as a hate crime and brought attention to the lack of hate crime laws in various states, including Wyoming

This week, we will introduce to the actors of this production and get some insight into The Laramie Project.  And now, meet Nancy…

Tell us a little about your background:  I grew up on and around the Auburn Players Community Theatre stage, and then continued on to study at SUNY Fredonia, eventually graduating with a self-designed major called Theatrical and Digital Arts. I then moved on to live in Orlando and work for The Walt Disney Company for several years, before deciding I wanted to concentrate my career to other places. I am now aspiring to be a voice actor for video games and cartoons!

What characters do you play in the show?  Romaine Paterson, Aaron Kreifels, Tiffany Edwards, Zackie Salmon, Leigh Fondakowski.

What made you want to do this play? I think this story is immensely important to tell. I was in the APCT production fo this show five year ago and I’ve been personally astounding by how much more relevant the topics in this play feel, right now in 2019. More so than they did the last time we worked on this show! This show and this story needs to be told now, because it is relevant to “now.” And as a proud member of the LGBTQIA+ community, I am so honored to be a part of this production.

THE LARAMIE PROJECT plays Thursday, Friday, and Saturday (October 10, 11, & 12) at 7:30pm at The Auburn Public Theater.  Tickets are $10 (senior/student) & $15 (general admission), and may be purchased by visiting www.auburnpublictheater.org or by calling the box office at 315-253-6669.

Thanks, Nancy — we look forward to catching you and your fellow cast members this weekend. Stay tuned for more cast interviews!
