Auburn Players will perform Into the Woods Jr at Cayuga Community College’s Irene Bisgrove Theatre on August 7th, 8th and 9th.

For the past 12 years the Auburn Players have presented a Summer Youth Theater for kids to learn about and create theater.

Youth Theater Director, Elisa Carabajal Hunt, believes that theater can teach children artistic and interpersonal, as well as help them development self confidence and the ability to work as an ensemble or team. In addition, a UCLA study concluded that students involved in the arts tend to have higher academic performance and better standardized test scores — nearly 100 points better on the SAT, according to a separate study by The College Board. Hunt points out that a play requires students to follow a time line, to use self-discipline, and to accept feedback. Studying theater can be a great starting point for careers such as teaching, law, and politics, not to mention broadcasting and performing. And the ability to speak confidently in front of a group is a boon for any career.

We asked a few of our theater kids, what the Auburn Players Summer Youth Theater has meant to them over the years. Here’s what they had to say…
