The GiverActor Geoffrey Howard talks about his experiences portraying the lead role of the Giver in The Auburn Players upcoming production of The Giver.  From the beginning, Geoffrey wanted to get involved in this production because  he hasn’t “done any acting in years aside from small musical theatre roles. And this play and it’s warning, I can get behind that.”

When asked how do you relate to character that you are playing?  Geoffrey replied that he is “ just turning fifty, I’m beginning to see that wisdom is often found at the end of a hard road. The Giver seems to be experiencing the same path, learning from costly mistakes.”

We also asked him what aspect of the character’s personality is most important to you?

Geoffrey replied “there is a mixing of fatality and hope within the Giver.” He went on to explain that there is “ a conflict  between what has always happened and what must happen. He wrestles deeply with what has always been done and what should be done.”

There is a great truth to be communicated here. The facts of this future society are manipulated brilliantly by the author to frame up and focus a lens of clarity on the pervading truths. those ‘truths’ i would leave for the audience to discover.”
