IMG_0096Actor and middle school student, Ben Kringer talks about his experiences portraying Asher in The Auburn Players upcoming production of The Giver.

The Giver 1.16When asked how he  relates to the character  Asher, Ben said “Asher and I are both lively and athletic and I try to lighten situations through humor the same way Asher does.” Ben thinks that there are many important aspects to Asher’s character. He said “ I think it’s important that Asher is a dynamic character.  He transforms from comedic to serious depending on the gravity of the circumstances.  You can clearly see Jonas and Asher grow apart because of this.”When asked what is challenging about bringing this script to life?Ben replied “it  takes a lot of work for the actors to understand the characters.”

Ben wanted to get involved in the production because he was inspired by the film. He said “ I didn’t read the book until after I was cast, but I had seen the film.  I am now reading the whole series.  I was excited to meet new friends and learn more about acting.” Ben says that the audience “will be impressed by the creativity of the audio-visual effects in The Giver.” Finally, when Ben asked about the portrayal of the dystopian society, Ben said “  I think our production shows that as Jonas grows, the society becomes more frightening and undesirable.”
