Charli Tallman and Isabella Ducayne are alternating the role of Lily in The Auburn Players’ Production of The Giver.
Charli says she wanted to be involved in the production because “when I looked at the lines that Lily and the other characters had, it looked very interesting and it looked like it might be a difficult part and I wanted a challenge.” She said that the dystopian society “is difficult to portray. You have to act very proper. In this society, there is no emotion, they don’t show love, so it’s kind of hard because I love my cast mates. It’s hard to act this way towards them.
After being asked how she relates to the character Lily? Charli said “I relate to Lily’s character because I am always happy and sometimes I blurt things out, just like Lily.” When asked what aspect of the character’s personality is most important to you? She replied, “I think what’s most important is Lily’s energy and excitement.”
Charli reflected on bringing the script to life when she said “ what’s challenging for me is that Michael, who plays Jonas, is one of my best friends; so it’s not easy to act like I don’t like him.” She loved working on the set and said she enjoyed “the really great talent of the cast.” Also, Charli said the audience will enjoy “how well the props are made.”
Isabella Ducayne talks about portraying Lilly in The Auburn Players upcoming production of The Giver. Isabella said “ I enjoy playing the part of Lilly in the play because she is sassy and her attitude are fun to portray on stage. Lily’ s innocence and playfulness is fun.”
When asked what’s challenging about bringing this script to life? Isabella said “trying to respond naturally on stage when faced with this artificial/frightening society.” Isabella feels that the audience will be surprised when they “ watch each of the characters “lack ” of emotion with death, lack of love and the everyday family values.”
Isabella has enjoyed working on this production she said “ I love working with this amazing cast and crew.”
